About
Born in the West of Ireland and educated at University College Dublin, Donal taught for three years in Ireland before setting off with a rucksack on his back to travel a little. He never returned to live in Ireland. He has lived and worked across Europe, the USA, Asia, and Africa in various jobs, but mainly in Education. More sedentary now and when not on the road, he writes about his travels from his home in Paris, where he went to live without a word of French because, somewhere or other, he fell in love with a French girl.
This Site
A patchwork of vignettes: from the beaches of Africa, to fishing villages in Greece, the windswept highlands of Ethiopia, to the vultures of Bombay, the tiny eating ‘gargottes’ of Madagascar, to Norwegian fjords and more. A few pieces are drawn from my book, ‘Moments Like These,‘ (100% Africa); most others are scribbled all over the place, such as in my blog. All photos on both the blog and website are mine unless otherwise stated.

My Latest Travel ebook: Moments Like These
Donal’s stories blend reflection, humour, and intimacy. Whether sipping coffee at a roadside stall or getting lost in a highland village in Ethiopia, he invites the reader to slow down, observe, and connect. ‘Moments Like These’ captures encounters, cultural quirks, and quiet revelations through the eyes of an Irishman traveling across a continent of contrasts, poverty, beauty, and addictive spaces.
